About Castle Vale Neighbourhood Partnership

An introduction by Lord Corbett of Castle Vale

Led by the Housing Action Trust (HAT), Castle Vale has been totally transformed over the last 12 years. What has been achieved is truly astonishing; where previously Castle Vale was a place people were queuing up to leave, it is now an area where people want to move to and raise their families. This has been achieved by the hard work and commitment of all those involved, the HAT, Birmingham City Council, Learning Skills Council, East Birmingham Primary Care Trust, Police, Castle Vale schools, Merlin Venture, Tenants and Residents Alliance, 2005 Group, Castle Vale Community Housing Association and many others too numerous to mention. However, one of the main reasons for the success of Castle Vale has been the way in which its residents have been involved in the regeneration. It has been their vision, enthusiasm and commitment that has driven the renewal programme forward.

What is now important is that the achievements and successes are sustained and that the area continues to develop and prosper, making Castle Vale an even better place to live. The partnership working that helped transform Castle Vale needs to be continued to make this ambition a reality. The Neighbourhood Partnership Board brings together the key partners and most notably the community to work together to ensure standards are maintained and outstanding issues tackled.

Ensuring that the area continues to develop and prosper won’t happen by accident; it needs a plan that clearly sets out the path to be travelled. A plan that all partners and agencies will be committed to delivering and also be judged against! In this Neighbourhood Plan we identify the issues that still need to be tackled and the actions needed to tackle them and, importantly, who will be leading the way.

This plan is for all the people who live; work and invest in Castle Vale, including tenants, owner-occupiers, shopkeepers, businesses, schools and colleges. Working together we can make Castle Vale an even better place to live.

It is the ambition of us all to encourage and enable those who live on The Vale to aim higher and to achieve more.

Castle Vale Neighbourhood Partnership (originally CV Neighbourhood Management Board) was established in 2002 to make sure that the significant changes made in Castle Vale to date are continued, and improved on, in the future.

The Partnership meets to ensure that the services Castle Vale residents receive fully meet their needs.  To achieve this the Partnership has brought together local residents and those responsible for providing key services.

Through the residents ‘2005 Group’ residents have already set up panels to consult local agencies on health, community safety, environmental, education, training and employment issues.

The Neighbourhood Partnership is also responsible for administering the Endowment Trust Fund originally set up by Castle Vale HAT.

Key Aims
