A fit and healthy Castle Vale

Ten years ago: On average, people were dying in Castle Vale seven years earlier than the West Midlands average age. Infant mortality was twice the West Midlands average.

Now: Both life expectancy and infant mortality in Castle Vale is at the average level for the West Midlands.

Targets:

  • Increase life expectancy

  • Reduce infant mortality

  • Reduce mortality from heart disease, cancer and suicide

  • Reduce the under-18 conception rate

  • Increase the proportion of young children aged 0-5 with normal levels of personal, social and emotional development for their age

  • Reduce the proportion of mothers who continue to smoke during pregnancy

  • Improve life outcomes of adults and children with mental health problems

  • Increase the proportion of children having normal levels of communication, language and literacy

  • Increase the proportion of young children with satisfactory speech and language development

  • Increase the percentage of school children who spend a minimum of two hours each week on high quality PE and school sport

  • Ensure access to a primary care professional within 24 hours

  • Ensure access to a primary care doctor within 48 hours

  • Reduce the maximum wait for an outpatient appointment

  • Reduce the maximum wait for inpatient treatment

  • Reduce the maximum inpatient and day case waiting time

  • Meet National Air Quality strategy objectives

  • Provide a consultation process so that residents' questions can be answered
